Re-write Rhetorical Analysis
THURSDAY, MARCH 29, 2012
Directions: Complete all of the following exercises. I would PREFER them to be typed but its is not a requirement. Please title them separately so I can put them in SchoolMax. Thanks, and have an incredible break!
1. JOURNAL ENTRY #25: Your Journal Entries have not been as great, lately, as I would hope. Here's the opportunity to redeem yourself. For Journal #25, answer as completely and scholarly as possible. Think outside of what you're told in class! ANALYZE!
What is the significance of this passage from Chapter 1?–
Well, she was less than an hour old and Tom was God knows where. I woke up out of the ether with an utterly abandoned feeling, and asked the nurse right away if it was a boy or a girl. She told me it was a girl, and so I turned my head away and wept. “All right,” I said, “I’m glad it’s a girl, and I hope she’ll be a fool—that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.” (p. 17)
2.RHETORICAL STRATEGIES in CHAPTER 5: Re-read Chapter 5. Pick out 2 rhetorical devices. Explain how these contribute to a THEME of the chapter. Be careful, and look at what the prompt is asking you to do.
3. Upon our return, please be able to recap details about Great Gatsby from Chapters 1-5.
